Jennifer DeVault's road to SCC went through Iraq while serving in the New Jersey Army National Guard. She joined the New Jerseyt Army National Guard at age 17 and left for basic training a week after graduating from Kingsway Regional High School. Basic training was in Missouri and she completed her advanced training in El Paso, Texas. In April 2003, Jen was deployed to Iraq for a year. Having earned a military commercial driver's license, she operated Army vehicles, transporting equipment and soldiers throughout the country. "I volunteered to work with the 101st Airborne Division troops for three months transporting them on their daily missions." After being honorably discharged on July 4, 2008 following eight years of service, Jen enrolled in SCC's Associate Degree in Nursing program. "I liked the close-knit feel of a smaller college," she said, "one where your professor knows your name and you can truly be hands-on."
